Turmoil Street

from Roll & Move by Adrian Niles

/

lyrics

I was King of the wild for a little while, turnin' mean spirited out
Now I'm not long for this world feeling Hell bent and full of doubt

Disease ain't sorry to kill a man on a high road of a range
Another beastly glow takes the sun down, another foe brings me something strange

A Harlequin heart would suffer here,
Ain't nothing' to give out attention
Faith is tested and love gets weak
When you're all broke down on Turmoil Street

Wind brought the stench of stale whiskey breath, broke down again on busted wings
Any angel with me now has got a death wish as a northern squall brings a rain sting

Darkness strangle desire and the vagrants get what they need
And they say there ain't never any sense in wanting for anything

But as the light breaks yonder past what I thought was real, what was disguised as that
let a battered heart learn some things and let a jivied soul have some kindness back.

Lies ain't lies no more
Once you can see right through what you been looking for
Truth is contested by crooked deceit
When you're all broke down on turmoil street

But I hold still and push the pain straight through and hold my breath till my face turns blue
I held back tears and I cried some too
